YouTube recently increased the pricing of all premium plans in India. This came to our attention after an X user, @MrSahilBawa, shared a post about it. It seems like he disagreed with the price hike for the YouTube Premium Family Plan, which went from ₹189 per month to ₹299 per month. He added that it was a 58% price increase, which he had never seen before.
If you subscribe to YouTube Premium for the first time, the revised plans will apply. Check YouTube’s official website to see the new prices. The company clarified that they have started notifying existing subscribers regarding this price hike. You may be required to accept the renewal with the new price to continue using the service.
YouTube says it is increasing prices to deliver excellent service and introduce new features. We guess the price hike led them to contribute more to creators and artists. Have a look at the below table to check the new prices.
YouTube Premium Plans | Old Price | New Price |
---|---|---|
Student Plan | ₹79 per month | ₹89 per month |
Family Plan | ₹189 per month | ₹299 per month |
Individual Plan | ₹139 per month | ₹159 per month |
Individual Plan [Recurring Monthly] | ₹129 per month | ₹149 per month |
Individual Plan [Three Months] | ₹399 for three months | ₹459 for three months |
Individual Plan [Twelve Months] | ₹1290 for a year | ₹1490 for a year |
Google states that it needs to increase its subscription plans occasionally to compete with inflation and local tax changes. It is actually worth it if you like to stream YouTube originals and other videos without any commercials. Further, you can download videos, watch them offline, and enjoy background playback.
