During the launch of Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel 9 smartphones, Google announced that the smartwatches will support downloading maps for offline access. Now, the update has been rolled out to smartwatches running on Wear OS, and users can get it by updating the Google Maps app to the 11.140.0701.W beta version.
While launching the app for the first time, the app displays a banner stating, “Offline maps on the phone are auto-downloaded to the watch.” It also brings an Offline Maps option on the app.
It means the offline areas that you have downloaded on the paired smartphone will be synced automatically on the phone. Apart from that, it also auto-downloads the user’s local area.
The maps will download or sync with your smartphone app only when your smartwatch is connected to a WiFi network and charging.
Like Android, the watch version also shows how much space the maps have occupied on your watch and the option to delete the maps with a single tap.
When you launch the Google Maps app offline, you will see a cloud icon to indicate there is no internet connection. It also displays a Search & go tile along with a microphone for voice commands.
