Keeping the Bose Soundbar updated helps the device function better with new features. If an update is available for the Bose Smart Soundbar, it will be updated automatically when it is paired with the Bose app. Alternatively, you can manually update the Bose Soundbar in three ways, which we have discussed in this article.
How to Update Bose Smart Soundbar 700
If you own a Bose Smart Soundbar 700 (2018-present), you can upgrade its firmware using the following steps.

Using Remote Control
As a prerequisite, connect your Soundbar to a strong Internet connection. Also, check if it runs with firmware version 5.0.12 or higher.
Note – To check the Soundbar version, go to Settings in the Bose app โ Tap My Bose โ Select Technical Info โ See Firmware Version.
1. Press the Music button on the remote control and hold for 10 seconds.
2. If an update is available, you can see a white light scrolling across the light bar while it updates.
3. After the update, your soundbar will reboot.
In case no updates are available, the soundbar will restart without any white light scrolling activity.
Using a Computer and USB Cable
1. Visit worldwide.bose.com/support/SB700FW using a browser on your PC.
2. After visiting that link, the firmware file, “product_update.zip,” will begin to download. Don’t rename, unzip, or open the file once it is complete.
3. Connect a USB-A to a Micro USB cable from a computer to the SERVICE jack on the Bose Soundbar.
Note -Buy a USB-A to Micro USB cable from Amazon if you don’t have one.
4. Disconnect the Bose Soundbar’s power cord, wait for 30 seconds, and restart it. The light bar on the Soundbar’s front side will pulsate white. If the restart is complete, the light bar will turn off.
5. Hold the Bluetooth and Skip Back buttons for 5 seconds to enter Service mode. Release both buttons if the light bar on the Bose Soundbar flashes white.
6. Open a browser on your PC and visit http://203.0.113.1:17008/update.html.
Note – The link won’t load unless you connect your Soundbar to a computer, reboot it, and enter service mode, as shown in the steps above.
7. Tap Choose File on the webpage screen and select the firmware file downloaded earlier.
8. Hit Upload and wait for the update to get installed.
Using the Direct IP method
1. Download the Bose firmware update file by visiting this webpage on a computer.
2. Keep the Bose Soundbar’s cord unplugged for 30 seconds. Then, plug it back in and reboot it.
3. Once the restart is complete, you need to note the Bose Soundbar’s IP address. Visit this webpage for instructions on finding the IP address.
4. Open a browser on your PC. In the URL field, enter the IP address followed by :17008/update.html and tap Enter.
5. Tap Choose File, select the firmware file, and click Upload.
6. Wait for the update to transfer and install. If the process is complete, you will get the UPLOAD COMPLETE message on the browser screen.
Also, you can see a white light scrolling across the light bar on the Soundbar’s front. If the update is over, the light bar will stop to scroll.
Using the Built-in Setup Network
1. Get the Bose Smart Soundbar 700 firmware file from the Bose support website.
2. Reset your Bose Soundbar to its factory settings. To know how, visit this webpage.
3. Go to WiFi settings on your computer and connect to the network name that starts with Bose, followed by your Soundbar’s name.
4. On a browser on your PC, go to http://203.0.113.1:17008/update.html.
5. Tap Choose File, select the downloaded firmware file, and click Upload.
6. Wait for the update to transfer and install. If the white light stops scrolling across the light bar, you can confirm that the update is complete.
How to Update Bose Solo 5 TV Sound System
To update the Bose Solo 5 TV sound system (2016-present), you must need a computer with internet access and a USB drive.
1. Switch off the Bose Soundbar and unplug its cord from the outlet.
2. Connect a USB drive to a computer. Visit this website and download the Bose Solo 5 firmware update file.
Note – Ensure your USB drive is formatted before connecting it to a computer.
3. Copy the downloaded file to a USB drive and eject it from your computer.
4. Connect the USB drive to the Bose Solo 5 TV sound system’s SERVICE jack.
5. Plug the Soundbar cord back into the source to begin the update. The Soundbar’s light will continue to pulsate amber during the process.
6. If the update is complete, the Soundbar’s light will turn off. You can now eject the USB drive.
How to Update Bose Smart Soundbar 900
You can update the Bose Smart Soundbar 900 software using the Bose Connect app or visit the Bose updater website. To get started, get the Bose Connect app on an Android or iPhone via the Play Store or App Store.
Run the Bose Connect app on your phone and pair your Bose Soundbar. Then, go to Settings in the app and click Product Update. If an update is available, the product will update automatically. If your Soundbar runs with the latest version, it will show “Your product is up to date.”
Alternatively, visit the Bose updater website btu.bose.com on your computer. Click Download to get the Bose Updater app. Upon installation, click Launch. Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the update. If the update starts, the Soundbar’s light will flash white for 10 seconds.
